Per Fightful: In addition to contacting Malakai Black while he was under contract to AEW, WWE also made contact with Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler and and a “top tier” AEW talent over the past few months.
Speculation is that the top tier talent was current AEW World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful backed up Dave Meltzer’s report in this weeks Wrestling Observer Newsletter, saying they were also told that Malakai Black spoke recently with someone within WWE and allegedly said he “really wishes that he was still there”.
This might be the reason Black was given a conditional release by All Elite Wrestling, with some sort of grace period before he can sign anywhere, and not an outright dismissal from the company.
AEW higher ups reportedly have a “if they want to go, let them go” mentality with some of the lower to mid-card wrestlers, feeling the roster has enough depth to fill slots if some get to the itch to leave.
